Appalachian Outfitters is a family-owned business started in a small Canton strip plaza on May 1, 1988. Our little Canton shop doubled in size and in 1999, we opened our Peninsula store and rock gym.
Today Appalachian Outfitters has grown to a 16,000 square foot retail store & adjacent rock gym located at 60 Kendall Park Rd. Peninsula, Ohio 44264. We are located in Peninsula (about halfway between Cleveland and Akron), just outside the Kendall Park entrance to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Appalachian Outfitters and the adjacent rock gym, Kendall Cliffs, are under the same ownership, and they are located in the same building. However, they are run separately. Kendall Cliffs keeps different hours than Appalachian Outfitters, and they have different contact information. Find out more information about Kendall Cliffs at www.kendallcliffs.com. The rock gym caters to both new climbers and experienced ones and is also open to groups like boy scouts, girl scouts, church youth groups, educations programs or birthday parties for special events with advance reservations.

Appalachian Outfitters is considered one of the premier outdoor retail facilities in the U.S., winner of the 2012 Backpacker Magazine/SNEWS Outdoor Retailer of the Year award.
Appalachian Outfitters is involved in promoting and protecting the great outdoors. Many of our groups are involved in grants that impact our environment. From cleaning up the Cuyahoga River during River Days to supporting the Haven of Rest programs for the homeless with coat drives and sock drives, we are ready to assist and give back to our community.
At Appalachian Outfitters, we attribute our success and fame to long-time employees who eat, sleep and breathe outdoor pursuits. It comes from sincerely wanting our customers to have perfect-fitting hiking boots or the right canoe or kayak for their lifestyles. It comes from expert climbing instruction at Kendall Cliffs or our various gear and skills classes. Success comes from treating customers, who love the outdoors, as friends! We think we are more than just a retail store, and we hope you do also!
