Appalachian Outfitters is a family-owned business started by Bob Collins which opened May 1, 1988, in a small Canton strip mall.

Our little Canton shop doubled in size and in 1999, we opened our Peninsula store and rock gym, one that is considered of the premiere outdoor retail facilities in the U.S.

Moving to the Peninsula Store

Appalachian Outfitters' success and fame doesn't completely come from the Collins family. It comes also from long-time employees who eat, sleep and breathe outdoor pursuits. It comes from sincerely wanting our customers to have perfect-fitting hiking boots or the right canoe or kayak for their lifestyles. It comes from expert climbing instruction at Kendall Cliffs or the backpacking classes and free wilderness trips to places like The Great Smoky Mountains, Monongahela National Forest, northern Maine and Colorado. Success comes from treating customers, who love the outdoors, as friends! We think we are more than just a retail store, and we hope you do also!
