Bill Schmidt will be holding a two part fly casting class focusing on catching these favorite river monsters. Ohio has some of the best Steely rivers in the nation. Learn how to attract, catch, and land these great fish. Participants should have basic fly casting skills, or have completed Fly Casting I & II. Learn some of the most common and useful knots used in the outdoors! This is a great class for the new scout, or a fun refresher for the long time outdoors person.

Proper knots make it easy to secure a load, tighten tent lines, pitch a fly, or in an emergency, tie a proper rescue knot. You’ll also learn about the different types of ropes and cordage and how to properly coil and store your lines. Class size is limited. Appalachian Outfitters Combines Baseball & Camping

Peninsula, Ohio – On June 26, 2010 Appalachian Outfitters located in Peninsula Ohio, sponsored “Aeros Scout Campout”. The Akron Aeros are a Cleveland Indians’ AA Eastern League affiliate that play at Canal Park stadium in Akron, Ohio. Over 400 cub scouts, girl scouts, and boy scouts participated in the event. This is the third consecutive year that Appalachian Outfitters has sponsored Scout Night. A second scout night with camping is scheduled for July 17, 2010.

This year, Appalachian Outfitters is providing 90 scouts, parents, and leaders with camping passes for the two scout night games. Each of the passes entitles the scouts to march around the field prior to the game, game tickets, snacks, and an opportunity to camp in the outfield after the game. Campers are able to participate in home run hitting contests, play on inflatable slides, watch movies on the big screen scoreboard, and participate in numerous other activities. Appalachian Outfitters owner Mike Leffler commented: “This is a great chance to bring together three iconic parts of Americana; baseball, scouting, and camping. We are privileged to work with the Akron Aeros to help expose today’s youth to these three great pastimes.” Appalachian Outfitters is also able select one youth to throw out the first pitch before each of the games.

Learn this extremely important outdoor skill with the beginner in mind. the cost of this class covers a Silva Starter 123 compass, and the official USGS Peninsula quadrangle topo map. This map covers a large area of our very own Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Both the map and compass are yours to keep, a $21.98 value! The class will cover the parts of a compass, how to orient your map, understanding declination, and basic map features. Class size is limited and in the past has filled up very fast.
