Open House Philmont Boy Scouts: Part I-Appalachian Outfitters

Open House Philmont Boy Scouts: Part I

Publish date

Last year, Appalachian Outfitters serviced 100 scouts, parents, and scout leaders as they prepared for the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. This year, we hope to have an even more successful second annual Open House Philmont Boy Scouts event on Saturday, February 28, 2015. The event includes prizes, demonstrations, and educational sessions.

What Is Philmont?

The Philmont Training Center, which is the Boy Scouts of America’s national volunteer training center, has been based in New Mexico since 1950. Philmont’s unique, natural environment has been specially designed to train and challenge leaders, whether they lead as professionals or as volunteers.

What Is So Great About It?

As the largest national High Adventure Base with the Boy Scouts of America, Philmont is the place to learn about scouting! There are 55 trail camps and 34 staffed camps. Each training session includes seminars about the latest techniques and tools. Philmont’s knowledgeable staff members intentionally create an atmosphere conducive to discussions, activities, and collaboration. Scouts, parents, and leaders are guaranteed to experience new adventures, build new friendships, and make new memories while exploring rugged trails that extend for hundreds of miles.

Is This An Exclusive Training Center?

6,000 Scouts and their family members participate in PTC programs each year. Scouts no longer need council approval to attend – any registered Scout is welcome to learn from courses at the Philmont.

How Can I Prepare?

Camping experts estimate outfitting a scout for the Philmont Scout Ranch typically costs over $1,000. Appalachian Outfitters’ manufacturers and sales representatives have donated more than $2,000 for raffle and door prizes at our Open House, including a pair of Lowas shoes, a pair of Oboz shoes, Renegade men’s shoe, and a Bridger girl’s shoe. The renowned Sea to Summit company has donated 10 X-mugs and Delta Sporks as additional prizes. All prizes will be exclusive to registered Boy Scouts, Scout Leaders, Girl Scouts, and parents involved in high adventure programs.

As part of the event, we will set up a Philmont-style campsite and Philmont trail meals. Our display includes a Philmont Thunder Ridge tent. We will demonstrate water purification and camp stoves and present seminars about equipment, compasses, maps, bear bag procedure, and more. Everyone will learn something new!

How Can I RSVP For The Open House?
