Fall Hiking Series - Steps off September 7th

We've set the dates for our Second Annual Fall Hiking Series!

We will be hiking on Sundays at 9am and Wednesdays at 6pm. Our Sunday hikes will be longer, and to accommodate the shorter days and those looking for a more casual stroll, our Wednesday hikes will be shorter.

Any changes or last minute weather cancellations will be posted the day of the hike on the AO Facebook page. You can also supply us with an email address for notifications. Send us an email with the word HIKES as the subject line.

We have incentives and prizes for all!

Once again Leki will be providing men's, women's, and kid's demo poles to use during the hikes, and we'll be offering special discounts on Leki poles for those attending the hikes.

For every hike you complete with our staff, you'll be entered into a drawing for some terrific prizes. The Grand Prize with be a set of Leki Micro Vario Carbon trekking poles ($199.95 value)! Superfeet will be providing one winner with a set of Superfeet Insoles. There will be lots of other great prizes to win.

Everyone that completes at least five hikes (any combination of Sunday or Wednesday hikes can be counted) will receive an Adventure Medical UL .3 first aid kit, perfect for carrying while hiking in our local parks.

Sunday Morning Hikes at 9am

  • Salt Run/Cross Country Trails – October 5
Wednesday Evening Hikes at 6pm:
  • Cross Country Trail – September 10
  • Tree Farm Trail – September 17
  • Pine Groves and Ledges Trail – September 24
  • Salt Run Trail – October 1
  • Boston Run Trail – October 8

Wetmore Trail

Wetmore Trail is an invigorating 4.5 miles long. It is rated moderate and takes just 1.5 hours to hike. There are a few hills to climb and streams to cross. This is a horse trail, so be aware of your surroundings. It is located North of Wetmore Road. Join us for a hike through tulip poplars, maples, and Buckeyes.

Salt Run Trail

Salt Run Trail is 3.25 miles long. It takes two hours to hike this moderate to difficult trail - be sure to rest well the night before! Located in Boston Heights, Ohio, you’ll find this trail West of Akron Cleveland Road and East of the intersection of Truxell and Akron Peninsula Roads. This scenic, peaceful trail is well worth any hiker’s time.

Tree Farm Trail

Tree Farm Trail is rated easy to moderate, so there’s no need to be intimidated about this one. It’s 2.75 miles long with 80 feet in elevation change. It takes just a brisk 1.5 hours to hike, so it’s perfect if you want to squeeze in a hike before continuing with a busy weekend. A mixture of pine and spruce trees provide a wildlife habitat for rabbits, chipmunks, and birds. You may even see Barred Owls in the trees, watching for their prey.

Pine Groves Trail

Pine Groves Trail is located West of Akron Cleveland Road in Boston Heights, Ohio. It is a brief 2.2 mile hike that takes only 1.25 hours of your time. There is an elevation change of 100 feet – just enough to set your blood pumping! Thick trees overshadow the trail, and several creek crossings add to the adventure.

Ledges Trail

Ledges Trail is such a beautiful hike that we featured it in a separate blog post! It is 2.2. miles long. Rated moderate, this trail has an elevation change of 105 feet. It takes 1.5 hours to hike, which is perfect for a Sunday morning adventure. You’ll see rock formations, a variety of birds, and a rocky outcropping perfect for sunset photos.
