Summer season means boat season! These warm months are the time to enjoy sunshine, blue skies, and clear water as you paddle your kayak through some of Northeastern Ohio’s best kayaking waterways. Whether you’re a recreational kayaker, an enthusiast with the latest gear, or a family group setting out to camp and paddle for a weekend, there are always new places for you and your family to explore.
One of our favorite areas to recommend is Cleveland Metroparks, which has multiple lakes, shorelines from Lake Erie, and rivers. If you have your own kayak, you can launch into the water using the boathouse public launch ramp. If you don’t have your own, you can rent either a single or a tandem kayak at the park’s Hinckley Lake Boathouse & Store. The store has fishing tackle, bait, gifts, apparel, refreshments, and more.
Another favorite is Ledge Lake. This body of water is located at Hinckley Reservation’s Ledge Pool. This area is perfect for a family outing on the water between June and August. No matter your level of experience with a kayak, you can have a fun time and feel safe.

We also enjoy the Quarry Rock Café at Wallace Lake. Wallace Lake is located within the Metroparks’ Mille Stream Run Reservation. Quarry Rock Café has kayaks that are available to rent, but if paddleboats or stand up paddleboards are more your style, those are available to rent as well.
41° North Coastal Kayak Adventures, which is located nearby the Emerald Necklace Marina within Rocky River Reservation, is another kayak location you may not have tried yet. The Yak Shack Rental Center has kayaks for rent, and there are also stand up paddleboards if you would like to try one of the most popular watersports.
