The Gransfors Bruk Small Splitting Axe can be used for medium-sized firewood. It is forged and ground to a concave, quite thin blade at the bit. The axe cuts quickly and easily into the wood and then effectively splits it as the broader section pushes apart the wood. The handle has a protective steel collar below the axe head and circular grooves towards the end for an extra firm grip.

Splitting Axes should not be used for striking a wedge or as a wedge. Only the Gransfors Bruk Splitting Maul and Gransfors Bruk Splitting Wedge are designed for this.

Awesome axe for a little lady

Purchased this axe a few weeks ago to supply wood for our wood stove as a primary heating source. While our wood is already split into large pieces, this sweet little axe allows me to quickly and cleanly cut it down into 2-3 smaller splits so it fits the stove -- and it is SO fun to use!! It's become my favorite "warming up" activity :) The axe is light in the hands, hits right on target, and generally splits the wood with one swing. The accompanying Axe Book was super helpful in terms of technique, and a fun read on the company besides. I would absolutely recommend the axe to anyone: small, feminine, or otherwise. It seems like a functional tool to have on a vehicle or at home, and could pack pretty easily too. I'm so in love with my new axe that my hubby hasn't had a chance to test it out yet!!

Great axe

Bought this as a Mother's Day gift. My wife loves it. Her friends love it. Splits great, looks great, the Axe Book is cool. Now she wants to visit the Axe Museum, which is a bit of a trek.
