Sharing The Simple Life: Pura Vida Bracelets

Publish date

Appalachian Outfitters is pleased to carry a large portion of the Charity Collection of Pura Vida Bracelets. “Pura Vida” is Spanish for “pure life.” This phrase reflects the mindset that shows how important it is to celebrate luck, live slowly to fully appreciate life, and show gratitude for everything. It’s an attitude that embodies the importance of living life fully and freely. Adopt this mindset with Pura Vida Bracelets!

Beginning Simply

Pura Vida began when Griffin Thall and Paul Goodman, two friends from Southern California, traveled to Costa Rica for five weeks after graduating from college. Not only did they fall in love with the simplistic lifestyle they found, but they also met Jorge and Joaquin. These two men sold bracelets on the streets in a small community. The colorful, simple bracelets embodied what Griffin and Paul had come to appreciate most in their trip – the pura vida lifestyle. The friends purchased 400 bracelets, took them to boutiques in the US, and found that the bracelets were in high demand.

Helping Others Locally

Because each bracelet is handmade by people in Costa Rica, Pura Vida gives local Costa Rican artisans jobs that help them provide for their families. Jorge and Joaquin started off living in one room that held three beds and multiple family members. Today, Jorge and Joaquin live in their own house and have 85 employees. Before, they only sold a few bracelets each week – now they sell more than 25,000 bracelets each week. Over 3,500 boutiques, shops, chain stores, and college bookstores worldwide sell Jorge and Joaquin’s bracelets.

Helping Others Globally

With the Charity Collection, Pura Vida gives to charities around the world – they donated more than $140,000 to more than 190 charities in 2013 alone, and they’ve given even more since then. Pura Vida is a 1% for the Planet Member with its Enviro-Causes Charity Collection. This means that the company donates to more than forty different non-profit partners that are part of 1% for the Planet. Leaders at Pura Vida work hard to support several charities at one time, from cancer research and abuse to natural habitats.
