Solutions to Make it Through Bug Season
Summertime is here, and with it is bug season! With news stories about ticks being worse than ever and the outdoors still calling our names, it may seem like a catch 22 to spend time in nature. Fortunately, there are effective solutions to biting insects, ranging from clothing to sprays.
Insect Repellent Clothing
Insect repellent clothing is a more modern approach to avoiding harmful bug bites. Our two favorite brands are Exofficio and Craghoppers. Both companies carry effective insect repellent clothing that is also stylish and affordable, and their company ethics allow us to support them with a clear conscience.
ExOfficio’s BugsAway® clothing uses Insect Shield® technology. This odorless and invisible insect repellent Permethrin deters bugs from biting. The ease and naturalness of the clothing allows you to enjoy the outdoors without any fears or worries. The clothing and technology has been tested around the world, proving its effectiveness in urban as well as wilderness settings.

Insect Repellent Treatments
Insect repellents are a more familiar, traditional way to deter bugs from biting. Two of our favorite brands are Ben’s and Natrapel for their quality and ingenuity in creating reliable repellents for your outdoor fun!
Ben’s® Insect Repellent
For more than 25 years, Ben’s® has been a trusted insect repellent. The bug spray is effective for 10 hours of bug protection against mosquitoes and ticks. For outdoorspeople who want to stay healthy, safe, and involved in nature, insect repellents like Ben’s® are an essential part of their outdoor gear. The repellent is available in a water-based formula that evaporates slowly (Ben’s® 30% DEET), maximum DEET protection (Ben’s® 100% DEET), headnets that keep away even the smallest bugs, and now also clothing that uses Permethrin to kill bugs on contact.
Natrapel® Eco Sprays, Pump Sprays and Wipes
Natrapel® repellents are available in three forms: eco sprays, pump sprays and wipes. All of these items are made with picaridin, the active ingredient in most repellents against mosquitoes. Many recent studies show that Picaridin is more effective than traditional DEET-based approaches to bug repellent. Picaridin stops the bug’s olfactory receptors from detecting you, which makes it more difficult for them to find you and bite you. In 2005, Picaridin first came to the US, but in the 1990s, Picaridin was first sold in Europe as Bayrpel®, and now it is one of the most popular brands in Europe.
