The handle has an ergonomic design that gives a firm and comfortable grip.

The majority of the handles are made of the wood type Hickory which is strong and flexible. Some individual models are from copper beech.

The shafts are impregnated with warm linseed oil and beeswax, which increases the quality of the shafts.

Both our splitting axes and the Outdoor Axe feature a metal guard to protect the handle. Extra handles for these axes include a guard fastened to the handle. Hafting an axe with a new handle with a metal guard requires a little more effort than a normal wooden handle. More force is needed to press the axe head onto the handle, and it is important to make sure that the guard goes into the axe eye (hole in the axe head) a little ways. If the guard is not pressed into the eye then the handle will sit loose. Partially textured for better grip. Wood: hickory.

Superb - Gransfors Bruk and Appalachian Outfitters!

Appalachian Outfitters possessed one of the few remaining replacement axe handles in a worldwide shortage. They did not inflate their prices and shipped it swiftly. UPS slipped it over my patio wall and I installed it yesterday with the wedge and pin supplied as well as a rubber mallet, linseed oil, melted beeswax, a Dremel cutting blade, and the wisdom of YouTube expertise of "JW9422."
Hickory wooden handles are preferred for such hard-hitting tools as axes and splitting mauls. Appalachian Outfitters sent me their best.
A family-member or dear friend will inherit this fine axe with its new handle and warm their hearth and home for generations to come.
