Cotopaxi – Repurposing Materials for High Quality Gear
Everyone appreciates good design. Something durable and functional, while standing out individually as a unique product. But what happens to all of those scraps of fabric, and little pieces or parts left over from those great products? In traditional retail, about 35% of fabric scraps end up as waste. Cotopaxi decided to mix things up and use those scraps that in the past had ended up in the trash to make gear! Check out Cotopaxi’s Del Dia Collection to see how they utilized the factory scraps.
How it WorksHere’s how it all works. Factories notify Cotopaxi when they have extra materials. Then they calculate how much of those materials can be used for their Repurposed Collection. Cotopaxi will use everything from scraps of fabric, thread, to buckles and zippers! Expert sewers build their gear in Cotopaxi’s factory in the Philippines.

Del Dia Collection
The Del Día collection takes this creative process one step further. Each of these packs are made with a variety of remnant materials, and the employees that sew them have complete creative control. This makes each of these day-packs a one-of-a-kind. This Luzon 18L do-everything-at-anytime pack features a drawstring closure, over a large main compartment. This day-pack is made of lightweight, yet durable ripstop nylon shell fabric, adding functionality to the playful design. The straps are made of an ultralight mesh, making them breathable and able to fit the majority of body types. The design also features an extra zipper pocket in the front of the pack, as well as an internal sleeve for hydration! Aside from making unique gear equipment, this philanthropic company also makes apparel.
